The Maritime School of Paramedicine’s Preceptor Workshops are focused on preparing participants to be effective Preceptors for our students by ensuring consistency and develop forms of constructive feedback in student evaluations.
The purpose of this workshop is to provide preceptors with general knowledge of the Maritime School of Paramedicine’s Paramedic educational packages, Adult Education principles and to familiarize them with the necessary preceptor forms during the student’s clinical experience.
Candidates should, as a minimum prerequisite, be 20 years of age or older and be registered, in Nova Scotia, as an active Primary Care Paramedic, Intermediate Care Paramedic, Advanced Care Paramedic, Critical Care Paramedic, or Critical Care Paramedic (Flight) or have an equivalent level of qualification in another jurisdiction. They should also have a minimum 2 years field experience.
In addition to the above course prerequisites, the potential candidate should possess the following important attributes:
- The mental and physical abilities to coach and supervise a paramedic student.
- Motivation.
- Maturity.
- Neat appearance.
- A dynamic, pleasant personality.
This course is recognized with Emergency Health Services of Nova Scotia as a continuing education credit (0.5). These courses are offered throughout the province of Nova Scotia. If you are interested in participating in a program please contact the Maritime School of Paramedicine directly.
