On September 5, 2001, the Maritime School of Paramedicine opened its doors to its inaugural class in Primary Care Paramedicine. Real-time paramedic experience is brought to the course by two classroom instructors and 10 lab instructors currently employed as paramedics in Nova Scotia.

The first PCP class, which graduated in June 2002, drew students from all areas of Nova Scotia including Yarmouth, Halifax, Canso, Inverness, Glace Bay, and points in between.
